By teaching different courses, etc. the Institute aims to provide knowledge on the field of human rights, humanitarian action, migrations, etc. and to equip students with the professional and technical skills required to effectively work in favour of them
The Institute runs a doctoral programme and three international Master's degree programmes. It has held courses on indigenous leadership since 2000.

The Institute of Human Rights offers specific university extension courses. The different courses on human rights held in San Sebastian are just one example of the many activities.Special courses on human rights have also been taught at the Basque Police Academy.Throughout the year, the Institute holds courses, seminars and other activities.
