Social and Institutional Relations

As an expression of its vocation for social incidence, the Institute maintains diverse relations with other academic organisations, with public institutions at international, national or local level, as well as with social and non-governmental organisations, foundations and associations.

Among the organisations at international level with which the Institute has collaboration agreements, we could emphasise the Office of the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights (Geneva, Switzerland), and the Inter-American Human Rights Institute (San José, Costa Rica).

Within the Basque scope, the institutional relations of the Institute are translated into collaboration agreements with several public institutions, at both autonomous community and provincial level. Thus, the Institute collaborates with the diverse competent departments in the area of human rights and development cooperation of the Basque Government and the Provincial Governments. In the same way, there is a collaborative relationship with the Spanish International Cooperation Agency for Development.

On the academic level, the international networks in which the Institute participates are numerous. Two of them are directly related to the organisation of joint European Masters: the NOHA Network and the E.MA Network. The Institute's team is also part of two outstanding networks of excellence, recognised as such by the European Commission: the Humanitarian Net network, focussed on diverse expressions of humanitarian issues, and the IMISCOE network, dedicated to questions related to immigration and diversity. Finally, the Institute also belongs to the network formed for the development of the program Consolider-Ingenio 2010, under the title "the time of rights", in which participate the most prestigious Spanish universities in the field of human rights.

In the same way, the Institute maintains relations with numerous social agents, mainly non-governmental or similar organisations. Among these, we could highlight an extended list of development-cooperation organisations which mainly collaborate within the framework of the Masters in Humanitarian Action. In this group we find well-known organisations like CICR, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Intermón-Oxfam, Prodessa, Médicos del Mundo, Mundubat, MPDL, CEAR, Action against Hunger, Entreculturas, UNICEF-Basque Country Committee, Círculo Solidario, Sodepaz, Mugarik Gabe, the Red Cross and Alboan.

In other scopes, the Institute maintains privileged relations with local social organisations like, among others, the Hegoa association, the Gernika Gogoratuz Foundation, UNESCO Etxea (Bizkaia), the Ceimigra Foundation (Valencia), the Research Centre for Peace, the Fride Foundation (Madrid), IPES Foundation (Pamplona) and the organisations on indigenous topics Almaciga and Iwgia. Joint activities with other social organisations have also been developed in variable human rights topics, like, for example, the Association of Friends of the Saharan People, Amnesty International, Bilbo Etxezabal, Hizkuntza Eskubideen Behatokia, Aldarte, Gesto por la Paz, etc.

Finally, the Institute is member of Oneworld, the one of the most important online portals in the world of International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid.
